Emily Christine Finch and NEMCC's Campus Country to hold February Showtime

2014 Feb 17

Northeast Mississippi Community College's Campus Country will hold its third Showtime performance of the 2013-14 academic year on Saturday, February 22 in the Seth Pounds Auditorium on the Booneville campus.

Curtain rises at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. on the Showtime entitled, "Coming Home."

Admission is free with a Northeast student, staff or faculty identification card and is only $5 for general admission to the public.

Northeast's first spring Showtime also marks the debut for a few new group members.

"After the fall semester, we lost a few group members," said Northeast Campus Country director Chris Dunn. "Having auditions mid-year and new members join in the spring has given our band a new sound, but has required a bit more work in rehearsals to get everyone up to speed. Overall, I've been really pleased with how quickly they've progressed."

With the addition of these new members has expanded the size of the band from six pieces to seven pieces.

"I had two drummers audition, who both really wanted to join the group. After hearing them play, I felt either could handle that responsibility," Dunn said. "So, I decided to take them both and have them trade off on playing drumset and auxiliary percussion. I've really enjoyed the new sonic possibility that having a percussionist adds to the group."

Campus Country's set list includes both classic and modern country with a few surprises mixed in.

The group will perform modern country favorites such as: "Hip to My Heart" by The Band Perry; "Baby Girl" by Sugarland; "Long Time Gone" by The Dixie Chicks; and "All We'd Ever Need" by Lady Antebellum.

However, the group will also venture into the rock genre with songs like "Lights" by Journey and "Travelin' Band" by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Campus Country will also reach into the oldies catalog with the songs "Be My Baby" by The Ronettes and "You Can't Hurry Love" by The Supremes.

Auditions for the 2014-15 group have been scheduled for Saturday, April 5 at 9 a.m. Auditions for both vocalists and instrumentalists will be held in Seth Pounds Auditorium. Scholarships are available for those planning on being full-time students at Northeast. Those interested in auditioning should contact Dunn via email at crdunn@nemcc.edu.
