NEMCC announces new free Workforce e-Learning platform
BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (07/28/2021) — Northeast Mississippi Community College is already one of the top community colleges in the nation for online education.
Now, the Booneville-based college hopes to incorporate its top ranking in Mississippi and second-ranked online education system in the nation into its new Workforce e-Learning platform.
Through the online learning platform, Northeast can help not only employers in the college's five-county service area - Alcorn, Prentiss, Tippah, Tishomingo and Union counties, but can provide an advanced method of learning for the thousands of employees in the area as well.
"Traditionally, Northeast has prioritized workforce training in its district," college president Dr. Ricky G. Ford said. "This program raises that commitment to another level. We are not only providing the training by a high-tech delivery method, in some cases we're also offering college credit for completing the training."
Workers have the opportunity to learn new skills through the Workforce e-Learning platform that will allow them to become more successful in their occupations. Classes will aid students in work ethics, hands-on industrial skills, and computer skills within a flexible and comfortable learning environment.
Employers will see re-skilled and certified current employees taking training that is customizable for industry requirements along with a blended, adaptable and personalized experience for each of their employees.
"Manufacturers are talking about the difficulties they have in finding a qualified workforce," said Greg James, assistant workforce director at Northeast. "Our team is providing this online training system so that industries can develop the talent they need when they need it. We are listening to and learning from industry every day in order to help them succeed.
"Northeast Workforce offers non-credit certifications in our open-to-the-public classes," James continued. "Now it's time to expand these offerings inside the workplace. Production demands place limitations on conventional classroom training. The Northeast Workforce eLearning System solves that problem by providing the flexibility and convenience that employers and employees need. The quality of life in our district improves every time an individual qualifies in advanced skills to move into a better job. Everyone wins."
Northeast will also offer custom online training that helps achieve the flexibility needed by the employees in an ever-changing world of juggling family, career and community responsibilities.
Under the new platform, Northeast will use the Amatrol eLearning curriculum, which includes more than 700 training modules to help bolster the current workforce in the area.
Modules can be custom-built for any specific industry needs throughout northeast Mississippi and are built as a training post for current under-skilled employeesall at no cost to the individual or employer.
Northeast's funding partners who make the eLearning system possible include the Mississippi Community College Board, Mississippi Office of Workforce Development, Mississippi Partnership (administered by Three Rivers Planning and Development District), and the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (administered by the Mississippi Manufacturers Association).
Students, who complete the 45-hour production technician course, can obtain a three-hour college credit as well.
