NEMCC Campus Police complete Taser recertification training
BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (07/28/2026) — Northeast Mississippi Community College Campus Police personnel recently completed Taser recertification training, reinforcing their commitment to safety, accountability and modern law enforcement practices.
Classified as an energy device, the Taser serves as a crucial tool in de-escalation and use-of-force alternatives.
Northeast's course, directed by Campus Police Chief Jason Jackson, was designed to provide both theoretical knowledge and hands-on application in the use and carry of energy deployment weapons.
Participants received instruction on the history, functionality and evolving role of Tasers in law enforcement.
Training included detailed overviews of multiple models, including the Taser X26P -- the standard device carried by Northeast officers -- along with newer options such as the Taser 7 and Taser 10 by Axon, which offer multiple-shot capabilities.
Legal and ethical considerations were a vital component of the course.
Officers reviewed use-of-force guidelines, liability factors and the personal responsibility needed when making split-second decisions in the field.
Emphasis remained on ensuring each deployment aligns with established policy and professional standards.
Practical instruction focused on proper handling, maintenance and readiness of each device.
Officers were trained to ensure Tasers are fully charged, inspected and operational at the beginning of each shift or upon checkout from the department.
Scenario-based exercises formed a key part of the recertification process.
Through realistic, high-pressure situations, participants developed critical decision-making and verbal de-escalation skills.
Hands-on training enhanced confidence and preparedness when responding to dynamic incidents.
Live exercises reintroduced officers to proper handling and aiming, firing and deployment techniques, along with the use of various operational modes depending on situational needs.
Instruction further highlighted best practices for integrating Tasers as an alternative to higher levels of force when appropriate.
