NEMCC honors high school art winners
BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (07/21/2021) — Corinth High School's Emma Hall took Best in Show at the Northeast Mississippi Community College's annual high school art competition during the spring semester.
Hall's entry entitled "Trapped," bested entrants from each of the college's five-county service district - Alcorn, Prentiss, Tippah, Tishomingo and Union counties.
In addition to Hall's Best in Show, winners were named in painting/mixed media, drawing (color), drawing (black and white), 3-D Design/Ceramics, 2-D Design and Printmaking/Photography/Computer designs.
In the Painting/Mixed Media category, Booneville High School's Makayla Bell took top honors with "Bloom," while Ripley High School's Rebecca Salinas was runner-up in the division with "Blossoming Growth." Alcorn Central High School's Summer Boggs captured third place in the painting/mixed media category with "Under the Microscope," while Ripley High School's Cecelia Torres and Corinth High School's Grace Monaghan both received honorable mentions for "Serenidad" and "Bugle," respectively.
In the Drawing (color) category, Corinth High School's Marley Mills took home top honors with "Self Portrait," while Booneville High School's Meg Howell was runner up in the division with "Liz on the Slopes." Corinth High School's Madison Studdard captured third place in the drawing (color) category with "Wood Duck," while Ripley High School's Amber Nickey and Alcorn Central High School's Macy Crum both received honorable mentions for "Expressions of Emotions," and "Study of Warm & Cool Colors," respectively.
In the Drawing (black and white) category, Corinth High School's Celeste Arguello took home top honors with "My Little Pumpkins," while Corinth High School's Rylyn LeBaron was runner-up in the division with "Pumpkin Patch." Biggersville High School's Taylor Mitchell and Booneville High School's Edan Park both received honorable mentions in the drawing (black and white) category for "Alice in Wonderland" and "A Rose," respectively.
In the 3-D Design/Ceramics category, Ripley High School's Kylee Jackson took home top honors with "Sunset," while Wheeler High School's Blaine Powell was runner-up in the division with "The Ancient." Jackson also secured third place in the 3-D Design/ceramics category with "Stripes," and Powell received an honorable mention for "Summoner."
In the 2-D Design category, Wheeler High School's Katrina Crawford took home top honors with "The Darkness Within," while Biggersville High School's Morgan Huggins was runner-up in the division with "Morgan." Belmont High School's Katie Comi secured third place in the 2-D Design category with "Purple Haze."
In the Printmaking/Photography/Computer design category, Belmont High School's Katelyn Montgomery swept the division claiming both top honors and runner-up with "Backyard Sunset," and "Swing of Memories," respectively.
All entrants had their work on display in the college's Anderson Hall Art Gallery throughout the spring semester.
