NEMCC's Embrey named MAACE Teacher of the Year
BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (08/18/2021) — Northeast Mississippi Community College made it a clean sweep of the top awards at the Mississippi Adult Education Conference in June.
Rachel Embrey has been named the Mississippi Association of Adult and Community Education's (MAACE) Teacher of the Year for the Northern District.
Along with Embrey's honor, Northeast Adult Education director and High School Equivalency (HSE) Chief ExaminerLaurie Kesler was honored as the MAACE Administrator of the Year for the Northern District and Irene Harrell, from the college's New Albany campus, earned the MAACE Support Staff of the Year for the Northern District award.
Embrey, who teaches adult education in Corinth, has helped over 30 individuals receive their high school equivalency over the past year and has had classes boast performance measures well above the national average.
Embrey, who instructs three classes, has seen her morning classes post a performance measure of 66.7-percent while her afternoon classes have a performance measure of 52.5-percent.
Across all three of Embrey's classes, 93-percent of her students are National Reporting System for Adult Education (NRS) eligible, which is the accountability system for federally-funded adult education programs under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
The Mississippi Association of Adult and Community Education enjoys the solid support of many of the state's most prominent educators, business and industrial leaders, government professionals, civic leaders, volunteer association leaders, and others interested in furthering adult and community education in Mississippi.
MAACE works to stimulate local, state, and regional Adult Education awareness and to encourage mutual cooperation and support for Adult and Community Education statewide. Through regional and statewide Adult Education summer conferences funded by the Mississippi Community College Board Office of Adult Education, MAACE assists in providing staff development training as well as creating a forum for Adult and Community educators to discuss techniques, methodology, materials, programs, problems, and challenges unique to the world of Adult Education.

Northeast athletics can also boast that it is home to a new ultramodern baseball and softball facility and currently holds the record for largest video boards for both sports in the community college ranks in the state.
The Chronicle of Higher Education has designated the college as one of its 'Best Places to Work For,' and CollegeChoice.net has named Northeast a Top 25 Community and Junior College in the country while The Center for Digital Education has recognized Northeast as a Top 10 Digital Community College in the nation.
Campus Labs recently named Northeast as one of two educational institutions in the nation as a Campus Labs Trailblazer Award honoree. The Campus Labs Trailblazer Award is based on the college creating a culture of assessment on campus through Campus Labs Planning to increase institutional adoption, focus on continuous improvement, and closing the loop in the institutional assessment priorities.
