NEMCC's Harrell named MAACE Support Staff of the Year

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (07/20/2021) — Irene Harrell of New Albany, was recently named the North Mississippi Adult Education Support Staff of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Adult and Community education.

Harrell is the academic assistant at the Northeast at New Albany Center where she has worked since 2016. She is a single mother of two and currently resides with them in New Albany.

Harrell was born and raised in Papua New Guinea. She moved to Australia at age 17, and then to the USA at age 24.

Upon arrival in the US, Harrell immediately enrolled in the Northeast's Adult Education Program in order to continue with her education. Her Adult Ed. instructors were impressed with how quickly she earned a GED and recommended her for employment at the college as a Data Entry Specialist.

Harrell enjoys experimenting with new recipes to share with her family and friends, developing a healthy lifestyle for her and her children, and keeping up with current fashions and trends.
