NEMCC Theatre Department searching for its next class of "Puffs" during November auditions

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (11/03/2026) — Some people are destined for greatness.

Others are destined for glory.

Then there are those who are perfectly content finishing third.

Northeast Mississippi Community College's Theatre Department is looking for a few good Puffs as it prepares for its Spring 2027 production of Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic.

Yes, that is the full title.

Yes, the word "Magic" appears twice.

And no, that is not a typo.

Auditions for the spring production will take place November 10-12 from 1-3 p.m. in the Hines Hall Auditorium on the Booneville campus.

For those who have ever dreamed of attending a school where the unusual becomes ordinary, where friendships face extraordinary challenges and where surviving the school year might be considered an accomplishment, Northeast's Theatre Department may have just the opportunity.

Puffs tells the story of a group of students who find themselves attending an unusual school over seven increasingly eventful years.

While others around them appear destined to accomplish remarkable things, the Puffs are simply trying to make their way through life, find their place in the world and earn a little recognition along the way.

Their goal is simple: Finish third.

Because sometimes being the best is overrated, and being third is an achievement worth celebrating.

Filled with humor, unexpected adventures, friendship and a healthy dose of underdog determination, the production takes a different look at what it means to be a hero, even when the rest of the world seems to have its attention focused elsewhere.

Northeast Theatre Director Daniel Nicholls is inviting students to step outside their comfort zones and audition for a chance to join the cast.

No previous theatre experience is required.

Whether students have spent years performing on stage, participated in a high school production or have never delivered a line in front of an audience, Northeast's Theatre Department encourages interested individuals to try out the auditions.

After all, every great performer must start somewhere, and the Puffs have never been particularly concerned about having the most impressive resume.

Students interested in auditioning should pick up an audition form from the Theatre Office in Hines Hall, Room 63, before attending one of the scheduled audition sessions.

Northeast's Theatre provides students with opportunities to develop their acting abilities, build confidence, work collaboratively and experience the performing arts through live theatrical productions.

Spring 2027's presentation of Puffs promises to offer a different kind of theatrical experience.

For anyone who has ever felt overlooked, underestimated or perfectly happy being somewhere in the middle of the pack, there may be a place waiting among the Puffs.

And remember, first place is nice.

Second place is respectable.

But third?

Third is the goal.
