NEMCC TO HOST COMMISSION TO REDESIGN THE MISSISSIPPI STATE FLAG MEMBER

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (10/22/2020) — Northeast Mississippi Community College students will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness history as a member of the Commission to Redesign the Mississippi State Flag sits down with them on Monday, October 26 at 6:30 p.m.

New Albany's Betsey Hamilton is scheduled to take part in a ZOOM call between Northeast employees, students and community members to talk about her experience with the Commission to Redesign the Mississippi State Flag.

Northeast's Division of Social, Behavioral and Applied Sciences along with the Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement committee is sponsoring the talk.

To access the talk, participants can join the virtual lobby on Monday night by entering the ZOOM ID: 848 7832 9538 with the passcode "MSFLAG."

Hamilton will talk about her role with the Commission to Redesign the Mississippi State Flag and the considerations that the commission faced during the selection process.

Organizers state that the talk with be a neutral-toned, information presentation that is not intended to influence anyone's vote for the upcoming Statewide Ballot Measure that will appear on the ballot for the November 3, 2020 election.

Hamilton and the commission's choice will appear as Ballot Measure 3 on the Tuesday, November 3, 2020 ballot as Mississippians head to the polls to select the United States President/Vice President, United States Senators, United States House of Representatives and Mississippi State Supreme Court Justices along with other local races and three statewide ballot measures - medical marijuana, an amendment that clarifies the winner of the race for governor and/or any other statewide office and the House Bill 1796 Flag Referendum where voters will have the opportunity to accept or reject the commission's proposed Mississippi State Flag.
