NEMCC to host TigerTown Tailgate

Event is full of activities for Northeast employees, students and community

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (10/10/2022) — Northeast Mississippi Community College will help families ring in the cooler fall temperatures with a TigerTown Tailgate on Thursday, October 13, in the area around the fountain on the college's Booneville campus from 5-6 p.m.

Coming off the success of last year's Tiger Tent or Treat event, the TigerTown Tailgate moves exhibits and giveaways outside so that children can enjoy the game day atmosphere on campus.

Weather forecasts have the Booneville area receiving a high of 72 degrees on Thursday with a low of 47 degrees and temperatures being a brisk 64 degrees at the time of the TigerTown Tailgate.

Approximately 20 organizations have signed up to participate in the TigerTown Tailgate, providing a structured event for Northeast employees, students and community members of all ages.

Northeast's TigerTown Tailgate is a way of giving back to the community and is open to anyone free of charge and will lead into the Booneville Fall Festival on Saturday, October 15, in the Triangle downtown near the historic Booneville Hardware building.

Giveaways, exhibits and activities will be abundant, with Northeast's golf team offering a putting green, Northeast's volleyball offering a volleyball activity, the college's Development Foundation and Alumni Association passing out Northeast-labeled crayons and color-changing cups and the President's Office providing draw string backpacks for those participating in the TigerTown Tailgate.

In addition to the giveaways, activities and exhibits, the President's office provides vouchers for free entry to the Northeast football game versus East Mississippi that night. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m., just after the TigerTown Tailgate wraps up.

Not only do participants get a chance to witness a Northeast gameday, but those involved also get a free meal provided by the Northeast President's Office as well as part of the community-wide tailgate that is provided before each Northeast home football game.

Northeast is not the only one getting involved in the TigerTown Tailgate, as multiple community organizations have signed up to be part of the second annual event. MaxxSouth Broadband, Region IV Health Services, Grace YP&E Scholarship Foundation, Booneville Church of Christ's Christians on Campus and the Booneville Main Street Association have all signed up to be part of the event.

Fourteen Northeast organizations have also agreed to join in on the fun with pom poms, stickers, candy, cotton candy, games and giveaways, face painting and a selfie booth to take photos with Spirit the Tiger mascot.

Organizations that have signed up to be part of the TigerTown Tailgate, including the Northeast cheerleaders, the Development Foundation and the Alumni Association, the office of enrollment services - which includes representatives from the college's admissions, records and recruiting offices, the office of financial aid, the Northeast golf team, the division of health sciences, the Northeast Honors Institute, librarians from the Eula Dees Memorial Library, the division of mathematics and sciences, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Collegiate chapter, the Northeast President's Office, the college's Student Government Association and Student Activities, the division of social, behavioral and applied sciences and the Northeast volleyball team.

In addition to the TigerTown Tailgate, Northeast's game day experience will be full of activities. At 12:10 p.m. the Northeast community will come together for a pep rally on the quad area around the fountain in front of the Ramsey Student Services Building, from 1-4 p.m. the Northeast Iota Zeta chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is hosting its own TigerTown competitions with inflatables for Northeast students in the same location and at halftime of the Northeast-East Mississippi game, the Northeast Development Foundation and Alumni Association will treat spectators to a fireworks show before the Showband from Tigerland takes the field.

Northeast's TigerTown Tailgate is sponsored by the Northeast President's Office, the college's public relations committee and the Iota Zeta chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
