NEMCC to launch Reserve Officer Training Academy in Fall 2026

Participants encouraged to get in before changes take place

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (07/21/2026) — Northeast Mississippi Community College will offer a new pathway into law enforcement with the launch of its Reserve Officer Training Academy during the fall 2026 semester.

With changes coming in the New Year, participants are encouraged to get their certification now.

Coordinated through the college's Office of Continuing Education and Public Safety Training Center, the Reserve Officer Training Academy is designed to prepare individuals for careers in law enforcement while meeting state and professional standards for training and certification.

A pre-physical fitness test is scheduled for Saturday, August 1, at 10 a.m. on the Booneville campus. The official physical fitness test and academy orientation will take place Saturday, August 29, at 10 a.m.

All required paperwork must be submitted by August 29.

Cost of the academy is $1,000 per cadet.

To ease the financial burden, participants may split tuition into two payments, with $500 due by August 31 and the remaining balance due by September 30.

Applicants must also complete the full program packet prior to acceptance.

Requirements include a medical physical, drug screening and an electrocardiogram before the August 29 physical fitness test.

Cadets must score at least 50 percent in all areas of the entrance physical fitness exam and provide a valid driver's license and copy of their birth certificate.

A background report conducted through the National Crime Information Center by the sponsoring agency is also required, along with proof of a high school diploma or GED.

Additional eligibility requirements include being at least 21 years old by the end of the academy, United States citizenship and current certification in First Aid and CPR.

Each cadet must secure sponsorship from a local law enforcement agency, documented through a letter of support.

Cadets must also have access to a firearm and ammunition for training and a patrol vehicle for Emergency Vehicle Driver Training exercises.

To successfully complete the program, cadets must achieve a minimum score of 70 percent in all areas of the exit physical fitness test.

Northeast's Reserve Officer Training Academy aims to strengthen the regional law enforcement workforce by providing accessible, high-quality training opportunities for prospective officers.
