NEMCC tuition remains unchanged for 2024-2025 academic year

Booneville-based college has not raised tuition in four years

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (05/02/2024) — At a time when it seems the cost of everything from gas to groceries to higher education is on the rise, it is a surprise when a price tag looks the same as it did a year ago.

That is exactly the case at Northeast Mississippi Community College when it comes to tuition for the 2024-25 academic year.

At its regularly scheduled monthly meeting April 9, the college's Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve a recommendation from Northeast President Dr. Ricky G. Ford to hold steady the tuition cost per semester for the fourth consecutive year.

"I want to commend the Board of Trustees for its commitment to maintain our tuition rate constant for the fourth consecutive year," Ford said. "Their decision to do so reflects our institution's dedication to affordable access to higher education while recognizing the financial pressures many families face."

Ford did propose, and the Board approved, all program fees be increased by five percent, an increase he believes is essential to ensure Northeast continues to provide its students with high-grade educational resources, cutting-edge technology and access to enriched academic environments.

Other modest fee increases approved by the Board included meal plan adjustments in line with Northeast's contractual obligations with its dining services provider, Sodexo, and a five percent increase to dormitory fees to ensure the college can uphold its housing standards of safe, clean and productive living environments for all its residents.

"We believe the incremental revenue generated by these increases will directly contribute to enhancing the quality of our programs and support our ongoing commitment to academic excellence," Ford explained.

"While these fee increases are moderate, they are crucial for maintaining the high level of instruction and services that our students deserve and expect from us. They will help ensure that we can continue to operate effectively, sustain the quality of our academic and residential offerings, and enhance the overall student experience."

Tuition per semester (based on 12-21 semester hours) at Northeast for the 2024-25 academic year stands at $1,825 for Mississippi residents.

For students who live outside the state of Mississippi, $3,465, and for international students, $3,700.
