Northeast Mississippi CC Promotes Civic Engagement on National Voter Registration Day

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (09/18/2023) — Northeast Mississippi Community College's Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement Committee, in collaboration with the college's Collegiate DECA chapter, is sponsoring a National Voter Registration Day event on Tuesday, September 19.

Voter Registration tables will be located in two key areas on the college's Booneville campus.

Individuals can register to vote from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Haney Union and a registration station will be set up in the Anderson Hall lobby, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. (noon).

Those who prefer a more private setting or have questions about the voter registration process are welcome to visit Patterson Hall office 104 (Dr. Will Bowlin) or Waller Hall office 300 (Christy Grissom).

It is important to note that both the college's Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement Committee and the Collegiate DECA chapter are non-political organizations, and their primary aim is to promote civic participation by encouraging all eligible citizens to register and prepare to cast their votes on Election Day, November 7.

In Mississippi, the deadline for voter registration for this year's general election is October 10.

To ensure that a person's voter registration is up-to-date or to verify one's status, the Mississippi Secretary of State's website provides a convenient online voter registration verification system. Mississippi residents can check their voter registration status by visiting https://www.msegov.com/sos/voter_registration/amiregistered/Search?ref=voteusa_en.

"Voting is a fundamental right for all citizens, and we encourage those who are eligible to exercise their civic duty," said Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson. "I'm proud of our continued efforts to encourage participation, including registering over 230,000 Mississippians since taking office."

National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) is supported by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) and various voter outreach groups. Since its start in 2012, NVRD has played a pivotal role in helping more than 5 million Americans either register to vote or update their voter registration information.
