Northeast Phi Theta Kappa schedules first blood drive of 2023

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (01/31/2023) — Northeast Mississippi Community College's Iota Zeta chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society is focused on helping those in need.

After battling rival Itawamba Community College in its annual "Out for Blood" blood drive in the fall, the Northeast honor society has set the dates for its first blood drive of 2023.

Northeast's Phi Theta Kappa will hold its initial blood drive of the year on Tuesday, January 31 and Wednesday, February 1 in the Claude Wright Room of the Frank Haney Union on the college's campus.

Both days, donors will be able to make an appointment between 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. to donate blood.

Organizers state, "The future of our nation's blood supply is being built today. College students are the future of our nation's blood supply; the future of ensuring blood is available for every patient in need."

Blood donation organization Vitalant has seen a significant increase in blood usage at area hospitals since the global coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and will return to the Northeast campus at least two more times in 2023 to help the honor society with their blood drives.
