Changing a life begins with a single decision: NEMCC's MI-BEST program has openings for Fall 2026
BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (07/13/2026) — A better future often starts with a simple question.
What if one decision could change the course of your life?
Many adults dream of earning a better paycheck, finding a stable career and giving more opportunities to their families.
For some, however, one obstacle stands in the way.
They never finished high school and are unsure where to begin.
Northeast Mississippi Community College is working to remove that barrier through its MI-BEST program.
Northeast's MI-BEST program gives eligible students the opportunity to earn their High School Equivalency while training for an in-demand career at the same time.
Rather than forcing students to choose between completing their education and preparing for a career, MI-BEST combines both goals into a single pathway.
Participants work toward earning their High School Equivalency (HSE) while enrolling in workforce training that can lead directly to better employment.
Eligible students also may receive assistance with tuition, books, supplies and other supportive services, helping reduce the financial barriers that often prevent adults from returning to school.
Northeast officials said the program is designed to help individuals build a foundation for long-term success while creating new opportunities for themselves and their families.
Students who qualify for MI-BEST can choose from numerous career pathways aligned with regional workforce needs, including:
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Industrial Maintenance
- Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)
- Welding
- Phlebotomy
To be eligible, applicants must need to earn their High School Equivalency, have a Bronze-level WorkKeys certificate or higher, and be a single parent, either custodial or non-custodial.
