NEMCC Adult Education awards over 215 High School Equivalency Diplomas during 2023-2024 academic year
BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (05/23/2024) — Northeast Mississippi Community College's Adult Education has announced that over 215 individuals earned their High School Equivalency diploma (HiSET/GED) during the 2023-2024 academic year.
Northeast's Adult Education instructs classes in each of the college's five-county service district - Alcorn, Prentiss, Tishomingo, Tippah and Union - at no cost to the student and also prepares them to enter the workforce or continue their educational careers.
In addition to HiSET/GED classes, Northeast's Adult Education offers Smart Start Training, both in-person and hybrid, which allows students to perfect job skills to be successful in college or in the workforce.
Not only does Northeast prepare students for their future education and jobs, the Adult Education department at the college has ACT WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certification, day and night courses, both in person and in a hybrid format, to fit any student's schedule but they also have career coaching, short-term workforce training, industry-recognized national certifications to aid in job readiness.
A graduation ceremony was held for those who chose to walk and receive their diplomas on Friday, May 10 at the Booneville High School gymnasium. The ceremony was temporarily moved this year to accommodate renovations to the Bonner Arnold Coliseum on the college's Booneville campus.
In total, 216 individuals received their High School Equivalency diploma (HiSET/GED) during the 2023-2024 academic year at Northeast. Included in the 216-person list were graduates from 35 cities, towns, villages and unincorporated areas in the Magnolia State and Tennessee.
One hundred and eighty-five (185) individuals hail from the college's five-county service district with 31 coming from outside the area including candidates that drove from Amory, Houlka, Louisville, Middleton, Tenn., Pontotoc and other areas throughout the state to receive a degree from Northeast.
Corinth led the local delegation with 57 individuals receiving their High School Equivalency Diploma from Northeast in 2023-2024 while Pontotoc led the out-of-district graduates with eight individuals receiving their High School Equivalency Diploma.
