NEMCC Art Gallery presents "Friendships: Nature's Poetic Cycle" by Rebecca Browning

by Michael H. Miller

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (10/22/2024) — Northeast Mississippi Community College's Anderson Hall Art Gallery has announced the opening of its second exhibit for the 2024-2025 academic year, Friendships: Nature's Poetic Cycle, featuring the work of acclaimed artist Rebecca Browning.

Browning's exhibit, a celebration of the interconnectedness of nature, will run until November 18, with gallery hours Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Browning's work is inspired by her childhood memories of playing in the woods and gardens near her grandmother's home.

"It was the magical beauty of the woods... that sparked my first desire to draw!" Browning said.

Today, Browning works from her studio, Meadow Creek, in New Albany, where she draws upon her rural surroundings to create her art. Her exhibit showcases original hand-carved linoleum prints and pastel paintings, each reflecting the vibrant flora and fauna of her Mississippi home.

One notable piece, Box Turtle Among Jack-In-the-Pulpits, highlights the ecological harmony between the box turtle and the Jack-In-the-Pulpit plant, exemplifying the "amazing interconnectedness among all living species."

A graduate of the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), Browning devoted 30 years to teaching in the Mississippi Public School System, nurturing a new generation of creatives while continually expanding her own artistic knowledge.

Now, as a full-time artist, Browning captures the ephemeral beauty of nature in every piece, hoping to evoke a sense of wonder in her viewers.

"I invite you to view my works in hopes that you might recall a mesmerizing moment spent in nature's reflection," Browning said.

Friendships: Nature's Poetic Cycle provides visitors with an immersive experience that celebrates both the aesthetic and ecological significance of natural environments.
