NEMCC Art Gallery to feature Hattiesburg artist Andrea Kostyal in "Structures in Harmony" Exhibition

by Michael H. Miller

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (11/05/2025) — Northeast Mississippi Community College's Art Gallery will showcase the dreamlike, architectural works of Hattiesburg artist Andrea Kostyal as part of its 2025-2026 academic year exhibition series.

Kostyal's exhibit, titled "Structures in Harmony," opened on Monday, October 20, and will remain on display through Thursday, November 20.

Housed in the Northeast Art Gallery in Anderson Hall on the college's Booneville campus, the exhibition is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Originally from Hungary and trained in fine art, Kostyal has spent the past 16 years living and working in Hattiesburg. Her vibrant, mixed-media cityscapes explore themes of unity, diversity, and equality, using layers of texture and architectural imagery to reflect the interconnectedness of people and places.

Kostyal's career spans over two decades of creative exploration.

Her paintings have been featured in solo and group exhibitions at venues including the Mississippi Museum of Art, the Meridian Museum of Art, the University of Connecticut, the University of Southern Mississippi, William Carey University, and numerous galleries and juried exhibitions both nationally and internationally.

Her work is represented by The Caron Gallery in Tupelo and Laurel, and she is co-founder of Singing River Art Studio and Artists Across Borders, organizations that foster artistic collaboration and community engagement.

In addition to her studio practice, Kostyal serves as the Visual Arts Coordinator for FestivalSouth, teaches workshops across the South, and has created several large-scale public murals for The Hattiesburg Alliance for Public Art.

In 2024, she received the Individual Visual Artist Fellowship from the Mississippi Arts Commission in recognition of her contributions to public art.
