NEMCC breaks 3,400 enrollment, sees nearly 10-percent increase in last two years
BOONEVILLE, Miss. (09/27/2024) — Northeast Mississippi Community College (NEMCC) is celebrating a milestone as the Fall 2024 semester begins with an enrollment of 3,445 students.
Northeast welcomed 107 more students compared to Fall 2023, when the enrollment stood at 3,338. This boost in student numbers pushes Northeast over the 3,400-enrollment threshold for the first time since before the global COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Northeast's recent surge in enrollment also reflects a nearly 10 percent jump since 2022, with the college adding close to 300 new students over the past two years.
Prior to the Fall 2024 enrollment over 3,400, the last time Northeast saw an enrollment figure above 3,400 was in Fall 2019, prior to the pandemic's disruptions.
"Education is the key to unlocking opportunities and shaping a brighter future for all. I'm thankful that Northeast Mississippi Community College is always reaching new heights. Especially with our record-breaking enrollment of 3,445 students this fall," said Northeast President Dr. Ricky G. Ford. "This achievement reflects the dedication and commitment of the Northeast family to our students. Let us continue to prioritize education and invest in our future generations."
Several key factors contributed to this year's enrollment growth, including an increase in first-year students.
Northeast welcomed 173 more first-year students this fall, signaling a strong interest in the college's academic offerings and student experience.
Northeast also saw a rise in out-of-district students, with 50 more students enrolling from outside the college's five-county service area, which includes Alcorn, Prentiss, Tippah, Tishomingo, and Union counties.
Of the 3,445 students enrolled for the Fall 2024 semester, 2,659 hail from within the five-county district, while 661 students come from other areas of Mississippi.
Additionally, 120 students are from out of state, and three are international students.
Northeast witnessed an 80-person increase in enrollment in its academic programs compared to Fall 2023, further solidifying its reputation as one of the top community colleges in the country.
Most Northeast students, 2,530, are enrolled full-time, taking 12 or more credit hours, while 915 students are part-time.
