NEMCC Career Development Academy continues to expand, welcomes more students for enrichment programs

by Michael H. Miller

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (10/25/2024) — Northeast Mississippi Community College's (NEMCC) Career Development Academy has grown significantly over the past few years, reflecting an increasing demand for its enriching, diverse programming.

As the Career Development Academy continues to expand its offerings, organizers invite more students to take advantage of the resources and experiences it provides.

With evidence showing that students involved in the Career Development Academy and other after school programs thrive academically, socially, and personally throughout the school year, Northeast is committed to continuing this trajectory of growth and success.

Northeast's Career Development Academy serves as a comprehensive platform, offering four key areas of enrichment:

  1. Academic Support: The Academy assists students with tutoring, homework, test preparation, and engaging Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) activities to build foundational skills and foster academic achievement.
  2. Career Exploration: Students are given the tools and guidance needed to explore various career paths, supported by ACT preparation and career-oriented programming to help them plan for the future.
  3. Life Enrichment: A variety of life skills programs are offered, including financial management, physical fitness, nutrition, culinary arts, cultural awareness, and even gardening. These activities equip students with essential knowledge to support lifelong health and well-being.
  4. Family Enrichment: Parental engagement is a crucial component, with sessions focused on parenting skills and creating a collaborative environment between families and educators to support student success.

Cohorts for the Fall 2024 semester are currently available at multiple locations, including Northeast's campus in Booneville, Wheeler Attendance Center, Thrasher Attendance Center, Jumpertown Attendance Center, Kossuth Middle School and Myrtle Attendance Center

Both Marietta Elementary School and Hills Chapel Elementary School opened their doors for Career Development Academy programming in early October, further extending the Academy's reach.

Programs will run through December 12, with registration available free of charge for all students.

As a joint venture between Northeast and the Mississippi Department of Human Services, the Career Development Academy continues to provide an inclusive, accessible environment that benefits students, families, and the community at large.

Northeast invites all interested families to explore the opportunities available for their children to learn, grow, and succeed.
