NEMCC designated as voter-friendly campus
BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (05/24/2024) — Northeast Mississippi Community College has been designated as a Voter Friendly Campus as part of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and Fair Elections Center's Campus Vote Project, recognizing its commitment to nonpartisan democratic engagement.
Northeast's designation, in effect from March 2023 to December 2024, places the Booneville-based college among a network of 262 colleges and universities actively fostering civic and democratic participation.
In the face of ongoing legislative challenges to college student voter access and the broader pursuit of diversity, equity, and inclusion on campuses, Northeast stands out for its dedication to preparing students for active citizenship.
Administrators and faculty have played a pivotal role, establishing collaborative civic and democratic engagement programs on campus and demonstrating leadership in supporting student voter registration and education initiatives.
While compliance with the Higher Education Act of 1965 mandates the distribution of voter registration forms, Northeast's commitment surpasses mere adherence.
NEMCC joins a distinguished cohort of Voter Friendly Campuses, a recognition of its demonstrated commitment to supporting students, faculty, administration, and community partners in fostering student participation in the democratic process.
Northeast's leadership and ability in the program have been acknowledged, urging them to proudly display and actively promote their Voter Friendly Campus designation.
