Employees donate over 150 pounds of non-perishable food and personal hygiene supplies to on-campus pantry

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (08/26/2024) — Northeast Mississippi Community College (NEMCC) employees have once again demonstrated their commitment to supporting students by making substantial donations to the Tiger Delivering Every Need (DEN), the college's on-campus food pantry.

During the college's annual InService event on Wednesday, August 14, and continuing through Thursday, August 15, Northeast faculty and staff united to contribute over 150 pounds of food and essential personal hygiene items for students in need.

"It is truly heartwarming to witness the generosity and compassion demonstrated by Northeast Mississippi Community College employees through their support of the Tiger DEN food pantry," said Northeast President Dr. Ricky G. Ford. "Their dedication to helping students in need showcases the spirit of community and care that lies at the heart of the college's mission."

Donations included a wide array of non-perishable food items such as canned meats, soups, beans, and vegetables, along with staples like peanut butter, jelly, macaroni and cheese, Ramen Noodles, and more.

In addition to food, the contributions also covered crucial personal hygiene products, including soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, and shampoo.

"The Tiger DEN is an incredible outreach initiative on our campus, and we are truly fortunate to have such caring and generous faculty and staff who prioritize the needs of our students," said Northeast's Dr. Emily Pollard, the director of the college's Tiger DEN food pantry. "I'm grateful to play even a small role in this significant effort."

Northeast's Tiger DEN, which established to combat hunger and meet the basic needs of NEMCC students, serves as a vital resource on campus.

Its mission to foster a healthy community by distributing essential food and hygiene products has made a significant impact, ensuring that no student at Northeast has to worry about where their next meal will come from or how they will access necessary hygiene items.

For those interested in donating to the Northeast Tiger DEN, contributions can be directed to the Northeast Development Foundation, earmarked for the Tiger DEN.
