NEMCC helping to bolster healthcare ranks with Ripley class

by Michael H. Miller

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (06/04/2024) — Northeast Mississippi Community College's Office of Continuing Education is helping to bolster the healthcare ranks with its latest offering in Tippah County.

Northeast's Office of Continuing Education is looking for a dozen highly motivated students to be part of its Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Training Program in Ripley during June.

Unlike other CNA courses offered that met for four hours at night and clinical hours on Saturdays, clinicals have been built into the course that meets from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 10-28 with no Saturday clinicals.

Northeast's CNA class in Ripley will meet at the Tippah Career & Technology Center at 2560 County Road 501 in Ripley with clinicals built into the course. Clinicals will still be observed at the Tippah County Nursing Home.

Fees for the class include $400 for tuition and books and that can be paid by either check, money order or debit or credit card. A $55 fee for fingerprinting and a background check can only be paid by debit or credit card.

No absences are allowed due to the short nature of the course and the class is limited to just 12 students.

Selection criteria for the class includes providing proof of age (18 years old or older) via government issued document such as a driver's license, a 15 on the American Collegiate Test (ACT) or a Silver certification on the Work Keys Test.

Potential students should also complete an admissions packet that certifies all shot records along with full payment - which reserves a spot in the class on a first-come, first-served basis.

Students in the 12-person class will need to have navy scrubs and sneakers, one stethoscope, blood pressure cuff and a watch with a second hand.

A black pen and pocket-sized notebook are also needed and all students who complete the course can sit for the CNA exam at $101.

Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the testing center and potential employment opportunities are with hospitals, nursing homes, home health and hospice agencies and traveling CNA agencies.
