NEMCC hosts annual high school art competition

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (04/03/2025) — Northeast Mississippi Community College's (NEMCC) Art Department hosted its annual High School Art Competition, showcasing the artistic talents of students from across the college's five-county service area, including Alcorn, Prentiss, Tippah, Tishomingo, and Union counties during the month of March.

High school students had the opportunity to compete in multiple categories, including Painting/Mixed Media; 3-D Design/Ceramics; Black and White Drawing; Color Drawing; Printmaking/Photography/Digital Design; and 2-D Design.

Taking top honors in this year's competition were Shyloh Fields and Lilli Burcham from Alcorn Central High School, who were awarded Best of Show for their 3-D Design piece titled To Turtley, a mixed media piece representing a sea turtle.

Paiting/Mixed Media

1st Place - Abigail Presley, Passing Time (Corinth)

2nd Place - Alyssa Griebenow, Duck Family (Ingomar)

3rd Place - Sharvin Jackson, Wood Duck (Ingomar)

Honorable Mentions - Kenzie Hill (Lollipops - Ripley), Marlee Tucker (Biscuit - Alcorn Central), Parker Pounders (On the Pitch - Booneville), Taisha Bell (Rise and Grind - Booneville)

3-D Design/Ceramics

1st Place - Kailee Randolph, Obesophobia (Ingomar)

2nd Place - Tilden Studdard, Redfish Salt & Pepper (Corinth)

3rd Place - Carly Roach & Willow Blue, American Dream (Alcorn Central)

Honorable Mention - Harsh Patel, Harsh's High Tide Hangout (Corinth)

Black and White Drawing

1st Place - Halle Riddle, Tunnel Vision (Booneville)

2nd Place - Kloe Potts, Tiger (Ingomar)

3rd Place - Ali Cooley, Shatters and Shards (Booneville)

Honorable Mention - Palin Eaton, Ponytail Profile (Jumpertown)

Color Drawing

1st Place - Hannah Snyder, River Spirits (Alcorn Central)

2nd Place - Milee Tucker, RiCO (Alcorn Central)

3rd Place - Alyssa Griebenow, Rainbow Fields (Ingomar)

Honorable Mention - Cayden Sample, Pumpkin (Thrasher)

Printmaking/Photography/Digital Design

1st Place - Claire Gardner, Beams and Light (Booneville)

2nd Place - Ruby Dacus, Healing a Broken Heart (Ingomar)

3rd Place - Sophia Salinas, Neon Moon (Belmont)

Honorable Mention - Lori Jo Lowery, Sunflower (Belmont)

2-D Design

1st Place - Abigail Presley, Play Bill (Corinth)

2nd Place - Ava Colley, Sea Turtle (Belmont)

3rd Place - Cayden Sample, Siamese Fighting Fish (Thrasher)

Honorable Mention - Raylee Hearn, Zombie (Thrasher)
