NEMCC opens Gaye Roden Carr Aquatic Center for swimming lessons

Class size is limited so registration is on first-come, first-pay basis

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (06/17/2025) — After undergoing renovations, Northeast Mississippi Community College has reopened the Gaye Roden Carr Aquatic Center on its Booneville campus and is now offering swimming lessons to the public.

Constructed in 1983, the Gaye Roden Carr Aquatic Center is a 7,300-square-foot facility featuring offices, dressing rooms, and an eight-lane, 25-meter Olympic-sized pool. The center, named in memory of former Northeast student Gaye Roden Carr through a family donation, serves both institutional and recreational needs for Northeast students, employees, and the surrounding community.

Swimming lessons, a cornerstone of the center's offerings, help empower area youth with confidence, essential water safety skills and a lifelong respect for the water.

Lessons are available for Northeast employees, students, their immediate families, and members of the community.

Children must be at least five years old by May 31, 2025, to participate.

Sessions will be held on the following dates:

June 23-26

July 7-10

July 14-17

July 21-24

Each session includes four 45-minute lessons, offered at 10:00-10:45 a.m. or 11:00-11:45 a.m.

Cost is $60 per participant per week.

To ensure quality instruction and safety, class sizes are limited and registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-pay basis.

No refunds will be issued unless cancellation is received at least five working days before the session start date.
