BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (07/10/2024) — Northeast Mississippi Community College has announced that the Gaye Roden Carr Aquatic Center is the place to be for those looking to cool down from the summer heat.

Northeast is offering a wide range of summer activities and services at the Gaye Roden Carr Aquatic Center for Northeast students, employees and their immediate families and even some community events/services to help foster learning throughout the summer months.

Constructed in 1983, the Gaye Roden Carr Aquatic Center features a 7,300 square foot facility with offices and dressing rooms. The eight-lane, 25-meter Olympic-sized pool serves both the institution's purposes and recreational use by Northeast employees, students, and the community. The facility was named in memory of a former Northeast student, whose family donated funds for the center.

Swimming lessons have returned to the aquatic center for Northeast employees, students and their immediate families, and the community is invited to take part in swimming lessons to help children learn this vital skill.

With the return of swimming lessons, the Gaye Roden Carr Aquatic Center will return to action as a valuable community resource provided by the college after being limited during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Swimming lessons will be available for individuals five years of age and older and will help to foster water safety and aquatic skills.

Swimming lessons will be offered on July 8-11, July 15-18, July 22-25 and July 29-August 1 from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. and from 11 a.m. until 11:45 a.m.

Cost for swimming lessons is $40 per person per week.

Children must be five years old by May 31, 2024, to be eligible.

To ensure high-quality instruction and safety, class sizes are limited, and applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-pay basis.

No refunds will be issued unless cancellations are received five working days prior to the start of each session.

Northeast's Aquatic Center will also host water aerobics classes, providing a low-impact and refreshing workout for participants. Classes started on Monday, July 8.

Water Aerobic classes will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays throughout the summer from 12:15 p.m. until 1 p.m.

Each class is priced at $5, making it accessible for everyone interested in enhancing their fitness routine with a fun and refreshing activity.

With the Gaye Roden Carr Aquatic Center opening for swimming lessons and water aerobics, the college is also offering the public a chance to rent the aquatic center for private events.

Whether planning a birthday party, family gathering, or corporate event, this state-of-the-art facility offers a perfect cool venue to help beat the summer heat.

For more information, to register for swimming lessons, to sign up for water aerobics or to rent the Gaye Roden Carr Aquatic Center for a private event, contact Emily Bell at esbell@nemcc.edu.
