NEMCC's Adult Education leads to new vision for Walnut's Anglin
BOONEVILLE, Miss. (06/26/2025) — Michael Paul Anglin II of Walnut didn't realize that one step toward Northeast Mississippi Community College's Adult Education program would lead to a completely new way of seeing himself.
Fresh out of high school and having earned his High School Equivalency Diploma (HiSET), Anglin was ready to start his career but unsure of where to begin.
"I was looking for a way to get my career started," he said. "That's when I was directed to Adult Ed at Northeast."
He remembers meeting Dr. Shawn Davis, an Adult Education Instructor, as one of the pivotal moments in his journey.
"He didn't just give me information," Anglin said. "He believed in me. From day one, he made me feel like I could achieve anything."
That support, he added, continued throughout the program.
"Everyone I met through Adult Ed made me feel that way like I could do something with my life. Like I mattered," he said.
The impact wasn't just academic. It was personal.
"Now, I'm proud of what I've accomplished. And more than that, I believe in myself. I know that anything I set my mind to, I can do," Anglin said.
Today, he is building a career that allows him to help others and make a meaningful difference.
"If it wasn't for the Adult Ed program, I don't think I'd even be on this path," he said. "It gave me the jumpstart I needed,
not just in work, but in life."
To anyone considering enrolling in the program, Anglin's message is clear.
"You've got this," he said. "The staff is so friendly and helpful, and they'll walk with you every step of the way. This program doesn't just help you reach your goals. It helps you believe you can have them in the first place."
