NEMCC's Fine Arts opens Spring 2025 art exhibitions with unique show

by Michael H. Miller

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (01/30/2025) — Northeast Mississippi Community College's Division of Fine Arts will host its first art exhibition of the Spring 2025 semester, Adapting to the Requirements of Chaos by Tad Lauritzen Wright from late January through February 17 in the Anderson Hall Art Gallery.

Northeast's art gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Wright's work explores the interplay between spontaneous reactions and thoughtful observation.

His pieces range from single-line drawings and mixed media paintings to simplistic sculptures, often blending traditional and non-traditional approaches.

Wright draws inspiration from overlooked sources, elevating simple concepts and materials into thought-provoking works.

Wright's paintings in the show are abstract, large-scale, mixed media pieces on canvas drop cloths that invite the individual viewer's attention and interpretation.

A native of San Angelo, Texas, Wright holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Nebraska Wesleyan University and a Master of Fine Arts from the Memphis College of Art.

Wright's work has been exhibited widely in the United States, including at the Katonah Museum of Art in New York, the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock, and the Brooks Museum of Art in Memphis.

Recent exhibitions include venues such as the Cheryl Hazan Gallery in New York, David Lusk Gallery in Memphis and Nashville, and ACME Gallery in Los Angeles. His work has been featured in New American Paintings five times, with one appearance on the cover.

Wright has taught art for 16 years, serving on the faculty at the Memphis College of Art and the University of Memphis before joining Southwest Tennessee Community College.

Wright currently lives and works in Memphis, Tenn.
