NEMCC set to celebrate annual winter commencement exercises

Commencement exercises will take place Thursday, December 11 in Bonner Arnold Coliseum

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (12/08/2025) — Northeast Mississippi Community College will recognize its newest graduates during Fall Commencement Exercises on Thursday, December 11, at 6 p.m. in Bonner Arnold Coliseum.

Almost 200 students have applied to graduate, and over half plan to take part in the ceremony.

Freshman Flannery Wester of New Albany is slated to sing the National Anthem.

Sophomore Kenyonia Rogers of Corinth will lead a prayer and moment of silence.

Northeast Vice President of Community Outreach and Economic Development/ of Satellite Campuses and Director of Northeast at Ripley Ben Shappley will read the names as graduates come forward.

Northeast Board of Trustees vice chairman Christy Holley of Tishomingo County will welcome those gathered.

President Dr. Ricky G. Ford will offer remarks recognizing the work of the class, and Vice President of Instruction Dr. Michelle Baragona will present each candidate before Ford confers degrees.

Family and friends who cannot be in the coliseum can watch the ceremony live at NEMCCTV.com.

A digital program will be posted on Northeast's ISSUU page at issuu.com/nemcctigers.

Five students will finish with double majors.

Four of them -- Faith Michelle Johnston of Booneville, Christina Abegail Norwood of Water Valley, Jordan Lee Reifers of Pontotoc and Daniel Cole Thacker of Corinth -- have earned Associate of Applied Science degrees in both hospitality management technology and culinary arts.

Shawna Marie Brentner of Corinth completed degrees in business management technology and accounting technology.

Students completing their studies this fall represent a range of programs designed to prepare them for university transfer or direct entry into the workforce.

Fields of study include general studies, accounting technology, administrative office technology, business management technology, civil engineering technology, construction engineering technology, culinary arts, hospitality management technology, IST: Cyber Defense, IST: iOS app development and paralegal technology.

Many students also completed certificate programs in accounting technology, computer technology, paralegal technology, practical nursing education and precision manufacturing and machining technology.

Earlier in the day, the Practical Nursing Education Lamp Lighting and Pinning Ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. in Hines Hall Auditorium.
