NEMCC to host annual TigerTown Tailgate with expanded events for students and community

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (10/18/2024) — Northeast Mississippi Community College (NEMCC) is excited to announce its annual TigerTown Tailgate on Thursday, October 24 on the lawn in front of the Ramsey Student Services Building will be bigger and better with new activities and opportunities for students and community members alike.
Northeast's TigerTown Tailgate event will run from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. on the lawn in front of the Ramsey Student Services Building, leading up to the Tiger football game against Itawamba Community College at 6:30 p.m.
In addition to a free, community-wide cookout from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., this year's Tailgate will incorporate the crowd-favorite Tiger Tent or Treat, offering fun activities for participants of all ages.
Northeast employees are organizing an array of engaging activities designed to strengthen the bond between the college and the surrounding community, with events for Northeast students and local residents alike.
A highlight of the event includes contests sponsored by Northeast's Development Foundation and Alumni Association, offering cash prizes and exclusive NEMCC merchandise:
- Pumpkin Contest: Northeast students will have a chance to showcase their creativity with a variety pumpkin designs. Cash prizes of $200, $100, and $50 will be awarded to first, second, and third-place winners. Pumpkins should be decorated to reflect a Northeast Mississippi Community College theme, and students must sign up during the pep rally at 12:10 p.m. on October 24, with entries due between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. on the day of the event.
- Coloring Contest: Open to all ages, the Coloring Contest features multiple age divisions, including Pre-K through college. Prizes include an NEMCC All-Event Passes, prize bags, and certificates for top entries. Winners will be announced during the community cookout at 5:30 p.m., and participants can also submit coloring sheets on-site for a special "Presidential Prize" category. Submissions are due by Wednesday, October 23, except for entries in the "Presidential Prize" category, which can be submitted during the event.
In addition to the contests, children and families will find a variety of family-friendly activities and interactive stations throughout the TigerTown Tailgate.
As part of Northeast's celebration of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the evening's game against Itawamba Community College will be a Pink Out.
Both college marching bands will perform at halftime, and special recognition will be given to a breast cancer survivors and advocates.
Northeast Showband from Tigerland and the visiting Itawamba band will not only be performing at halftime but as with tradition, the Showband from Tigerland and the ICC All-American Marching Band will battle it out from the stands during breaks in action and well into the night after the football contest.
To enter the Coloring Contest, participants may download and print the coloring sheet for their age group from the official TigerTown Tailgate website at tigertowntailgate.com or pick up sheets at the event.
