NEMCC ventures out for 75th graduation
Northeast set to hold commencement exercises at Crossroads Arena in Corinth
BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (04/30/2024) — Northeast Mississippi Community College, a stalwart in the realm of higher education in the tri-state area since 1948, is gearing up for its seventy-fifth (75th) commencement exercises.
However, due to ongoing renovations at the renowned Bonner Arnold Coliseum, Northeast's graduation ceremonies will temporarily relocate from the college's Booneville campus to the Crossroads Arena in Corinth on Thursday, May 9.
In addition to temporarily moving its commencement ceremonies, Northeast will harken back to having all graduation exercises in one day with the college's 2024 commencement split into two sessions.
At 2 p.m., Northeast's university parallel graduates will stride across the stage to receive their degrees while the college's health sciences and career technical students will culminate their academic journey at 6 p.m.
While Northeast's 2024 graduation ceremonies make the drive north to the Crossroads Arena, the college's Adult Education commencement ceremony will trek to Booneville High School's gymnasium on Friday, May 10 at 6 p.m.
For those unable to attend in person, both of Northeast's 2024 commencement exercise ceremonies and Adult Education graduation will be broadcast live on NEMCCTV.com and archived on the school's YouTube channel so that all celebrations can be enjoyed by all friends, family and fans of the candidates.
To ensure best seating, attendees are encouraged to arrive early, with the processional for all ceremonies set to begin 15 minutes prior to the start of each event.
Attendees can expect a procession set to the classic strains of Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance." Houston's (Miss.) Kirkland Johnson will lead a Moment of Silence/Prayer at the 2 p.m. ceremony, while Corinth's Madison McVey will assume this role for the evening event.
Lillie Faith Childs from Walnut and a member of the college's Campus Country music group will deliver her rendition of the National Anthem at the 2 p.m. event.
Northeast First Lady LuAnne Ford will perform it at 6 p.m..
Booneville's Molly Tennison and Rece Davis will both step to the podium to deliver the student response during the one-day celebration. Tennison is scheduled for the 2 p.m. ceremony while Davis will offer his reflections and gratitude at the 6 p.m. ceremony.
Tennison served as the 2023-2024 Student Government Association President for the college and Davis was the Division of Health Sciences All-Star Award recipient for the 2023-2024 academic year.
Northeast chairman of the Board of Trustees Vance Witt of New Albany will extend a welcome to graduates, families, friends, and supporters at both ceremonies while Northeast president Dr. Ricky G. Ford will deliver remarks to both classes, underscoring the significance of the moment and the bright futures that lie ahead.
Dr. Michelle Baragona, the college's vice president of instruction, will play a pivotal role in recognizing the graduating class before Dr. Ford confers their degrees.
Dr. Jason Beghtol, an assistant director of bands and brass instructor at Northeast, has the honor of presenting the graduates as they cross the stage.
Corinth/Alcorn County's Crossroads Arena, situated at 2800 South Harper Road in Corinth, offers convenient access off the US 45 and Harper/Industrial Road exit, with ample parking to welcome guests to the Northeast commencement exercises.
