Northeast's Family Atmosphere Extends to Child Care: Helping Parents Learn and Work While Keeping Their Children Close

NEMCC Child Care Opens Its Doors for Community Members

by Michael H. Miller

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (08/15/2025) — At Northeast Mississippi Community College, being part of the Northeast family means more than just earning a degree or working on campus -- it means having the support a person needs to succeed, both academically and personally.

For many students, faculty, and staff and even community members, that includes the ability to keep their young children close while they focus on education and career goals.

Northeast's Child Care Center, located on the first floor of Waller Hall on the Booneville campus, continues the college's tradition of fostering a family-centered atmosphere.

Designed to provide a nurturing and learning-ready environment for children ages three and four, the Child Care Center helps parents stay connected with their little ones while attending or teaching classes or working in the Booneville/Prentiss County community - without the stress of high costs or long commutes.

Cost is often a barrier when it comes to childcare, but Northeast has been able to keep it affordable for its community.

For student-parents, the cost is just $7 per day, while employees of the college pay only $13 per day. That is a fraction of the cost compared to many off-campus daycare centers, which can charge over $100 per child per week.

In addition, the one-time registration fee is just $15 -- another example of Northeast's commitment to supporting its family.

Rather than having to drive 30 to 45 minutes in the opposite direction or leaving children with older siblings during the day, parents can simply drop their child off at the Booneville campus and be confident they are nearby, cared for, and learning in a structured setting. Northeast's convenience and affordability of the Center allow families to stay together while still pursuing educational or professional goals.

Enrollment at the Child Care Center is open to toilet-trained three- and four-year-old children of NEMCC students, employees and community members. Children must also be able to feed themselves.

To register, families must submit a completed application and an Immunization Compliance Form 121.

Once accepted, the $15 registration fee secures the child's spot.

Northeast's Child Care Center operates from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, following the college's Fall and Spring semester schedules.

While the first week of each semester is reserved for teacher preparation, childcare begins the following week and continues throughout the term.

Availability is limited, and slots are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

First day for the Northeast Child Care Center to have children is August 24.
