BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (07/24/2025) — Northeast Mississippi Community College's award-winning podcast TigerTalk has once again made national headlines - this time earning a spot among the Top 12 podcasts in the country in Million Podcasts' "Best 30 Community College Podcasts" list, released June 29, 2025.

Out of hundreds of community college and education-focused podcasts, TigerTalk was ranked not only in the Top 12 overall but also finished second in the nation in publication recency, placing just behind Wake Technical Community College's We Are Wake Tech podcast, which is published almost daily.

"I'm grateful for the recognition as one of the top podcasts in the nation," said Northeast president Dr. Ricky G. Ford. "I'm even more thankful for the opportunity to discuss my passion and that is the students, employees, and instruction we provide here at Northeast Mississippi Community College."

Produced weekly since its launch in October 2017, TigerTalk recently celebrated a milestone with its 350th episode, continuing its tradition of highlighting the people, programs, and progress at one of the nation's premier community colleges.

Million Podcasts' list included not just traditional community college podcasts but also corporate and national voices that speak to issues in higher education, such as the American Association of Community Colleges (ranked 4th), Continuous Learning Institute (6th), and Graduate Conversations (11th).

Northeast's 10- to 12-minute commute friendly podcast stood out to the judges among a Top 15 that included institutions such as Montgomery County Community College, Moraine Valley Community College, Nassau Community College, Northeast State Community College, Harper College, Pasadena City College, Mt. San Antonio College, Tulsa Community College and Glendale Community College.

Other podcasts featured run times that stretched nearly two hours and the average listening time was 47 minutes.

"This is what makes Northeast the premier Community College it is," Ford said. "We are a team and I'm thankful for Liz Calvary and Michael H. Miller and the roles they play in the production each week."

Northeast's TigerTalk podcast is produced by Marketing and Public Relations Specialist Liz Calvery and Public Information Specialist Michael H. Miller, with Ford anchoring each episode.

Each episode includes a Q&A session with Ford, followed by news and updates from across all of the college's campuses .

TigerTalk airs weekly on 102.3 The Shark in Ripley and is also available across all major podcast platforms.

For those who prefer a visual format, each episode is also posted on the podcast's YouTube channel at youtube.com/@nemcctigertalk.

Recognition from Million Podcasts follows TigerTalk's 2024 placement as the No. 2 community college podcast in the country by FeedSpot, which judged nearly 500 podcasts based on web traffic, social media presence, and update frequency.

In May, Northeast's TigerTalk podcast was named as the state runner-up in the podcast category of the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi's Junior division of its annual contest.

Northeast's TigerTalk is also one of the longest-running podcasts of its kind, offering an unfiltered, organic look inside community college life - without corporate sponsorships or outside production companies.

"Every week, TigerTalk gives us a chance to slow down and tell the real stories that make this place special," said Northeast Marketing and Public Relations Specialist Liz Calvery. "It's personal for me, this podcast feels like Northeast at its best: rooted in people, purpose, and the promise of what's ahead."

From critical updates during the COVID-19 pandemic to celebrating student and employee achievements and highlighting academic, athletic, and workforce developments, TigerTalk has become a signature part of the Northeast communication efforts and experience at the Booneville-based community college.
