BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (07/21/2026) — Northeast Mississippi Community College Office of Continuing Education will be bringing the heat albeit in a safe way during the latter portions of July.

Northeast will offer a Firearm Safety for Women course on Saturday, July 25, on the Booneville campus, providing participants with practical instruction focused on safe firearm ownership and use.

Designed to combine classroom learning with hands-on experience, the course includes eight hours of instruction and live fire drills.

Cost for the course is $80.

Participants will receive comprehensive training covering universal firearm safety rules, safe weapon handling, correct terminology, ammunition selection, proper grip, firearm assembly and disassembly, cleaning and maintenance, and shooting fundamentals.

Instruction emphasizes the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for responsible handgun ownership.

Each participant is required to bring a quality handgun.

Individuals without access to a firearm may rent one during the course for $10 per weapon.

Added required materials include 100 rounds of ammunition, three magazines if available, eye and ear protection, and comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing.

Closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended, as flip flops and open-toed footwear are discouraged for safety reasons.

Course instruction aims to build confidence while reinforcing safe practices in firearm operation and handling.

Live fire exercises will allow participants to apply learned techniques in a controlled environment under instructor supervision.
