Tishomingo's Young honored with prestigious Jane Williams Excellence in Nursing Memorial Award at Northeast

by Michael H. Miller

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (08/21/2025) — Northeast Mississippi Community College's Practical Nursing Education (PNE) instructors honored Audrianna Young of Tishomingo with the Jane Williams Excellence in Nursing Memorial Award during the college's annual PNE Candle Lighting and Pledge Ceremony on Monday, July 28 in the Claude Wright Room of the Haney Union on the Booneville campus.

Northeast's presentation of the Jane Williams Excellence in Nursing Memorial Award marked a highlight of the evening, recognizing a student who exemplified the integrity and commitment championed by Williams, a former health science instructor at Northeast.

Now in its eleventh year, the Jane Williams Excellence in Nursing Memorial Award is presented annually by the Practical Nursing Education faculty to a student who best reflects the high standards and professional values that Williams instilled throughout her 39-year teaching career (1969-2008) at the college.

Following Williams' passing in 2012, the award was established to honor her legacy and her role in shaping the college's practical nursing program.

Selection for the award is based on a range of criteria, with Northeast's PNE faculty nominating and selecting the recipient each year.

In cases where nominees are equally qualified, the student's grade point average serves as the tiebreaker.

Young was one of 36 students participating in the graduation ceremony, which celebrated the transition from student to nurse and emphasized the values of compassion, dedication, and professionalism.

Northeast's Jane Williams Excellence in Nursing Memorial Award was first presented in 2014 and remains one of the highest honors within the college's practical nursing program.
