NEMCC Career Development Academy opens enrollment for 2025-2026 academic year

CDA focuses on academics, career exploration, life enrichment, and family enrichment

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (08/18/2025) — Northeast Mississippi Community College's Career Development Academy (CDA) is gearing up for another year of enriching the lives of students across its five-county service area.

Classes for the 2025-2026 academic year will begin Tuesday, September 2.

Northeast's Career Development Academy serves students from fourth grade through high school seniors, offering an after-school program designed to provide additional learning opportunities beyond the regular school day.

For students attending the CDA in Booneville, organizers have made participation even easier by hosting classes at Booneville Middle School, allowing a seamless transition from the school day to the CDA without leaving the building.

Northeast's CDA after-school program is built around four pillars of growth - academics, career exploration, life enrichment, and family enrichment - with each designed to help students develop the skills and experiences needed for success in school, work, and life.

During the academics portion of the program, students receive tutoring, homework help, test preparation, and hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) activities.

Career exploration opens doors for students to discover future pathways through career guidance, ACT preparation and fee assistance, workforce and industry tours, and college visits.

Life enrichment activities encourage healthy habits and broaden horizons with sessions on financial literacy, physical fitness and nutrition, culinary arts, cultural awareness, and gardening.

Recognizing that a student's success is a community effort, the CDA also provides family enrichment opportunities such as financial workshops, workforce training, parenting skills classes, and information on job opportunities through WIN Job Centers.

Currently, the Career Development Academy operates in eight locations: Booneville, Hills Chapel, Jumpertown, Marietta, Thrasher and Wheeler in Prentiss County; Kossuth in Alcorn County; and Myrtle Attendance Center in Union County.

Northeast's Career Development Academy is free to families with no enrollment cap, allowing siblings to participate together.

Northeast's CDA is funded by the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) and serves students in Alcorn, Prentiss, Tippah, Tishomingo, and Union counties.

Northeast's Career Development Academy does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age in its programs and activities. In adherence to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the CDA program does not discriminate based on a child's disability and strives to provide reasonable accommodations to enable children with disabilities to fully participate. All children are valued, and the program believes every student deserves an environment that fosters growth in all areas of development.
