NEMCC recognizes TIP, TOP honorees
BOONEVILLE, Miss. (05/15/2023) — Northeast Mississippi Community College celebrated the accomplishments and achievements of its employees and students during the college's annual Honors Day ceremony on Monday, April 17 in the Bonner Arnold Coliseum.
During the 2023 Honors Day ceremony, which is sponsored by the college's Iota Zeta chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, the college recognized faculty and staff for their dedication to the college with the announcement of the college's Tremendous Individual Performance (TIP) and Teaching Outstanding Performance (TOP) award winners.
Patrick Eaton, Northeast's vice president of institutional advancement and the executive director of the Northeast Development Foundation and Alumni Association, announced that Austin Beasley and Tabitha McKay had been honored with the college's TIP award while Sallye Bowlin, Bryan Mitchell, Marianne Lancaster, Dr. George Nock, Lorie Mattox and Jonathan Shaw were each selected as the college's TOP honorees.
Beasley serves as the college's Career Development Academy's Project Director and Academics Coordinator while McKay was honored as the college's Educational Systems Specialist but now serves as Northeast's Director of Institutional Research.
Bowlin is an accounting and business instructor in the Division of Social, Behavioral and Applied Sciences while Mitchell serves the college as the Director of Bands and Percussion in the Division of Fine Arts. Lancaster is dedicated as a Simulation Lab coordinator/instructor in the Division of Health Sciences while Nock serves as physics instructor in the Division of Mathematics and Sciences. Mattox is an English instructor in the Division of Languages and Humanities and Shaw works as a Precision Manufacturing Technology Instructor in the Division of Business and Engineering Technology.
Northeast's TIP award is designed to recognize Tremendous Individual Performance for non-administrative staff at Northeast. An outside committee comprised of non-Northeast personnel is utilized to determine the two winners each year, who exhibit the qualities of "Tremendous Individual Performance." Each TIP honoree is given a $100 grant, a reserved parking place for one year and included in the Northeast Development Foundation and Alumni Association annual report and other various publications.
Northeast's TOP award is to honor the innovative teaching methods of Northeast faculty. One full-time faculty member from each of the college's six academic divisions is recognized each year with the Teaching Outstanding Performance award. Each TOP honoree is given a $100 grant, a reserved parking place for one year and included in the Northeast Development Foundation and Alumni Association annual report and other various publications.
In addition to the Honors Day ceremony, the Iota Zeta chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society held its annual spring induction during the event where the award-winning honor society welcomed over 150 new members into its ranks.
Northeast's Honor's Day serves as a ceremony to recognize the school's top students in each division - business and engineering technology, fine arts, health sciences, humanities and languages, social, behavioral and applied sciences and mathematics and sciences -- Scholar's Bowl team members, Honors Institute graduates, the Honors Teacher of the Year, Collegiate DECA state and international winners, Phi Beta Lambda state and international winners, student winners of the college's annual art competition, the Tiger Award winners (athletics), the annual Tyger Symmetry Creative Writing Contest winners, the 2023 Northeast Hall of Fame inductees and acknowledgement of the Tremendous Individual Performance (TIP) and Teaching Outstanding Performance (TOP) award winners.
Approximately 325 members of the Northeast student body were recognized for their academic achievement and/or inducted into the national honor society.
Phi Theta Kappa seeks to foster the development of leadership and service, to provide an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas, and to encourage the establishment of scholarships for advanced education.

The Chronicle of Higher Education has designated the college as one of its 'Best Places to Work For,' and CollegeChoice.net has named Northeast a Top 25 Community and Junior College in the country while The Center for Digital Education has recognized Northeast as a Top 10 Digital Community College in the nation.
Campus Labs recently named Northeast as one of two educational institutions in the nation as a Campus Labs Trailblazer Award honoree. The Campus Labs Trailblazer Award is based on the college creating a culture of assessment on campus through Campus Labs Planning to increase institutional adoption, focus on continuous improvement, and closing the loop in the institutional assessment priorities.
