NEMCC Reminds Educators to Sign up for NISOD Regional Workshop on Generative AI in Education

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (09/24/2024) — Northeast Mississippi Community College (NEMCC) is reminding educators and educational institutions to register for the upcoming National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Regional Workshop on Friday, October 4.

Titled "Implementing Generative AI in Curriculum Design and Student Learning: A Hands-On Workshop," the workshop will be led by Dr. Timothy Mousel, a pioneer in the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. The workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the Northeast Booneville campus and will include lunch provided by NISOD.

Co-hosted by NEMCC, this event is an opportunity for educators to enhance their teaching methodologies with the latest AI technologies.

Attendees will gain hands-on experience with generative AI applications and learn practical strategies for integrating AI into their curriculum design, assignment creation, and student engagement practices.

Registration Deadline Approaching

Educational institutions and educators are reminded that early bird registration ended on Friday, September 6 and registration costs are as follows:

  • NISOD Member Colleges: $300 per person
  • Non-Member Institutions: $450 per person

Attendees will also have the opportunity to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for their participation.

For those wishing to attend from the K-12 ranks, they should select the non-member institution when registering at http://www.nisod.org and selecting "Face-to-Face" events.

Workshop Overview

Participants will explore how generative AI can be harnessed to create unique educational content, invigorating their curriculum and fostering more personalized and engaging learning experiences. By the end of the workshop, attendees will:

  • Gain a thorough understanding of generative AI's principles and applications in education.
  • Learn to craft and refine prompts for generating AI outputs that enhance lesson plans.
  • Develop a lesson plan incorporating AI in a simulated classroom setting.
  • Create an action plan with timelines and milestones for implementing AI in their teaching, addressing ethical considerations and potential challenges.

About Dr. Timothy Mousel

Dr. Timothy Mousel, a full-time faculty member in the Kinesiology department at LSC-Online, is recognized for his groundbreaking work in AI-assisted instructional design. With accolades such as the 2022 Lone Star College Online Faculty Excellence Award and the 2023 NISOD Excellence Award. Mousel brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to this workshop.
