Northeast names Dr. Emily Pollard 2024-2025 Humanities Teacher of the Year

Pollard will give her humanities lecture on Tuesday, February 4 in the Hines Hall Auditorium

BOONEVILLE, Miss. -- (01/28/2025) — Northeast Mississippi Community College's (NEMCC) Cultural Arts Committee has announced Dr. Emily Pollard, a psychology instructor, as the 2024-2025 Humanities Teacher of the Year for the two-year college.

Dr. Pollard will deliver her lecture, "The Heart of Humanities: Fostering Understanding, Culture, and Connection," on Tuesday, February 4 at 6 p.m. in the Hines Hall Auditorium on the college's Booneville campus.

As with all the college's Cultural Arts Committee events, the lecture is free and open to the public.

Pollard has over 16 years of experience in teaching and counseling.

She holds a bachelor's degree in education from Mississippi State University, a master's degree in counseling psychology from Mississippi State University and earned a doctorate in higher education administration from The University of Southern Mississippi in 2023.

In addition to her work in the classroom, Pollard serves as the coordinator of the Tiger DEN Food Pantry, an on-campus initiative addressing student food insecurity.

Pollard's professional contributions include research and publications on topics such as student retention, mental health, and diversity.

Northeast's Humanities Teacher of the Year recognition, in conjunction with the Mississippi Humanities Council is awarded annually to a faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in teaching and engagement in the humanities.

It includes a $400 cash award and a complimentary ticket to the Mississippi Humanities Council Public Humanities Awards Ceremony.

Previous Humanities Teacher of the Year recipients from Northeast include Dr. Amy Langley (2023), Eric Smith (2022), and Dr. Will Bowlin (2021).
